Ripping is the term used when directly converting files
from one format to another. There are many pieces of
software that are capable of ripping CD audio files, one
of them is Musicmatch jukebox (V6.1) which we will use
here. A bitrate of 128Kbps is generally good enough for
near CD-quality conversion.
First of all, decide which of your CD's you are going to
put on your MP3 disc. Remember that MP3 is a much more
compact form of audio file (typ. 4Mb per track) compared
with CD audio (typ. 40Mb per track), so to get the most
out of your MP3 disc you will need to get plenty of songs
ready, exactly how many will depend on size of CD,
Bitrate used and length of songs. For this exercise we
will use just 2 CD's and 4 various tunes. Just press the
record button to start ripping your audio files. (Please
refer to the instructions within Musicmatch for the exact
procedure).
When you have done you will have a folder on your hard
drive that looks something like this.
Please Note:- MP3 files can be saved with any valid filename
however, the A3 DVD Player can only show the first 9 characters.
So rename or prefix a number to the filenames, as shown above.
Contained with the folders are the tracks of that
CD.
Now that we have our MP3 files ready, all we have to do
is get them onto a CD-R.
