The audio produced for films is intended for the movie theatre
with much bigger amplifiers and no neighbours to disturb. If you
find you are watching your favourite film and it suddenly goes very
loud then this is all due to something called 'dynamic range'. The
range of volume on a 5.1 DVD can vary much more than an ordinary
transmission because they are given a 'headroom' allowing the volume
to increase dynamically with the scene in question. To turn this
feature off or down a bit then adjust the dynamic range in the
Dolby Digital setup menu.
