Welcome To The World Of 5.1 Channel Sound!
The Reoc HT80 provides is an in-home theatre system capable of outputting
six descrete audio channels providing Dolby Digital Stereo in your home.
Setup of these speakers is vital to the proper listening experience. Failure
to heed these simple guidelines will result in poor and confusing sound and
a disappointing result all round.
Before we get to the rules of setting up your speaker system there are a couple
of things to note before starting.
The Sub-Woofer (main unit) can be placed practically anywhere in a given installation.
The reason for this is that low frequencies are non-directional (the human ear
cannot tell from which direction the sound came). This means inconspicuous
placement is possible.
Although these guidelines are not set in stone the basic speaker arrangement
must be adhered to. (i.e. front left, centre and right in front of the listener/s,
and the surround to the rear. Minor adjustments to the delay times can
largely compensate for unorthodox installations.
There are 4 tips to succesfully setting up a 5.1 Dolby speaker system.

|
Try not to place the centre speaker closer to you than the Main front speakers.
They are best kept all the same distance away from your listening position. If
your centre speaker has to be closer to you than the Main front speakers then
the delay must be altered in the source equipment. An option is usually
provided via settings menus within the source equipment. The closer it is then
generally the bigger delay we want. Dont forget, we want all the sound from all
the speakers hitting our ears all at once and that takes timing!

|
Try to position the Main front speakers including an angle of about 45-50°
from centre (exactly half diagonally outwards in each direction). This is the
optimum angle for listening to DVD movies. For optimum 6CH audio listening the
speakers should include an angle of 60° (slightly wider apart).

|
|

|
The 3 front speakers (main left and right and the centre speaker) should
be as near as possible to ear level. This enhances the positioning
of the audio giving a more lifelike representation.
|
|
|

|
The Surround speakers should be placed slightly behind and above ear
level (60-100cms). They should be facing each other (not pointing to
the listening spot). This arrangement creates a diffuse, enveloping
surround soundfield throughout the listening area. If surround speakers
are not placed correctly then the surround information is drowned by
the rest of the audio. Again, the delay setting can usually be
altered in the source equipment. The closer they are to the listening
point then the bigger the delay ought to be.
