Remote Control Buttons For Record Timer

Button presses are in Bold.
Menu items are in Italics.

Step 1 Before you start

  • Ensure the clock is set correctly including the date and year, otherwise your TR4 may appear to be working incorrectly.

  • Insert a video cassette into the TR4 on which you would like to record.

Step 2 Getting to the right menu

  • Press Menu on your remote control to access the Main menu.

  • Use the Up & Down buttons to move the yellow highlight over Timer programming.

  • Press the Right arrow button to enter the Timer programming option.
If your clock has not been set then you will be automatically taken to the clock set menu. The clock must be set for timer recordings to work.

Step 3 Selecting a free slot

  • Using the select an available slot in which to put your timer recording details. (Yellow highlight). If there are no free slots available (max 6) then 1 previous timer recording will have to be overwritten to accommodate the new details.

  • Press the Right arrow key on your remote to start entering the details. A magenta sub-highlight should now be visible. That is our working area.

Step 4 Entering the Details - Pr No.

  • The Pr No. is the channel you wish to record. Use the Up & Down arrow keys to choose the Pr No. you would like.

  • Press the Right arrow to move on to the date.

Step 5 Entering the Details - Date

  • Similarly, using the Up & Down arrow keys, select the date on which the recording is to take place.

  • To change the date to a date in the future (up to 1 month) press the Up arrow until the date is reached.

  • To change the setting to record everyday or once a week on a particular day at a chosen time then press the Down key and select your day. (Sun, Mon etc. is for once a week recording and if you keep pressing Down then Day is for recording everyday at the chosen time.)

  • Press Right to move the highlight to the Start time column.
Todays date is automatically put in this slot the first time you use it. Change this if required.

Step 6 Entering the Details - Start time

  • The current time (or previously used start time) is currently already set in this column. Use the Up & Down arrow keys change the starting time of the recording using the 24 hour clock. (i.e. 1am=0100, 1pm=1300.)

  • Remember that if you are recording early tomorrow morning, say 1am, then this will be entered as 0100 but the date has to be set for tomorrow aswell.

  • Press Right to confirm the hours and enter the minutes column. Use the Up & Down arrow keys to change the minutes to the desired value.

  • Press Right to move to the End time.

Step 7 Entering the Details - Finish time

  • The TR4 automatically puts in a time 2 Hrs in advance (or previously entered time) of the Start time.

  • Enter the Ending time using the Up, Down & Right arrow keys in a similar fashion to setting the Start time.
(hours first, then minutes, 24 Hr clock - Please not that this is the finish time and not the programme length.)

  • Press the Right arrow to enter the recording speed column.

Step 8 Entering the Details - SP/LP

  • Using the Up & Down arrow keys select your choice of recording speed.
    (SP=Standard Play, LP=Long Play)

  • Please bear in mind the recording time available on the inserted cassette. (This can be doubled using LP instead of SP. There is a slight quality drop when using LP because only half the tape is being used to record the image & sound.)

  • Once all the details are in you can press the AV button to store the programme details or Left to amend details.

  • Press the Menu button twice to leave the Timer Programming menu and return to normal viewing. If the timed programme has been entered correctly the T/Rec. light will be on the front panel. Please see the notes below.

Once stored, the yellow row highlight will move down to the next available free slot ready for you to start inputting details. Repeat steps 3 to 8 to input more Timer recordings.

If your cassette is thrown out at this stage then please insert a cassette that is available for recording, ensuring the record protector tab is in place.

You will notice after leaving the Timer menu that you cannot eject your cassette. (If you have successfully stored a Timed recording.) This is to make sure that the TR4 has a cassette to record on to when the time comes for your recording to start. The last thing your TR4 wants is for you to miss your recording because it has nothing to record onto. Using FF or REW is still permitted though.

It is up to you though to make sure that there is enough free tape left in the cassette to accommodate your recordings.

To cancel a timed recording, or stop one if has already started, then enter the Timer programme menu (Step 2) and move the highlight to the timer setting you want to remove. If the programme has already started then this row will be in magenta. Press the Clear button on your remote to clear the programme.

Press the Menu button twice to return to normal viewing.
