Why do I still see black lines top and bottom of
the screen with the WideScreen Picture Format?

The TT2 TV has a roughly square shaped main screen known as a 4:3
format. In essence 4:3 means 'for every four units length ways
there will be 3 units making up the height.' However widescreen
transmissions are design to fill the screen of a TV with rectangular
shaped screen with a size of 16:9 i.e 'for every 16 units of length
there will be 9 units of height'.

The 16:9 compatibility mode of the TT2 allows you to view the whole
of a widescreen broadcast. Without this mode all you would see is
a the square bit in the centre of the picture, as shown in the top
figure. Whereas with the 16:9 picture format on you can see the whole
picture as shown in the bottom figure.
To fit the 16:9 picture on a 4:3 screen the picture has
to be squashed both length ways and height ways, giving raise to black
lines at the top and bottom of the screen.
